Since the DESY Board of Directors decided in 2009 to expand DESY's astroparticle physics activities, the development has been so successful that a new research area was established at DESY on 1 January 2019.
The Astroparticle Physics (AP) division is based on the proven DESY strategy of "one laboratory with two locations", according to which the divisions at DESY are cross-location. The division manager for astroparticle physics is a member of the board of directors based at the Zeuthen site and is also responsible for site management at Zeuthen.
